I have to admit - I've not seen a new 2017 Honda Civic Type R in person. "Regular" non-Type R's? Sure, I've seen plenty of new 2017 Civics, and the other '17 Hondas that share some of the same design cues. The chrome "band" across the grill that lives on the Accord, CR-V, the new HR-V - I don't personally care much for it.
And the general new styling of the regular 2017 Civic? I don't really like it all that much either. The afore-mentioned chrome band (black on the regular Civic, and Type R), and the sharply angled tail lights? Not really a fan.
It seems to be a trend, design-wise, for Honda and especially the new Nissan look over the last year or so - but I think Nissan did it better. And the Type R? It's obviously the regular Civic, on steroids - but man - to me this is one ugly car!
Like I said, I've not seen in person - yet, but I've seen plenty of photos, and videos on YouTube and car mag sites - and I just think it's not attractive. Now, most of the reviews I've read - and the videos - all say the thing drives and handles like the super hot sedan that it is, and it seems to fair very well against the other cars in its class, the Ford Focus RS and VW GTI - and others.
So, I'll grant that it's fun to drive - I get that. But I personally wouldn't buy one. I want a car to be both fun to drive, and nice to look at.
Check out this review of the new Type R. The headline teases that it's looks are wanting - but I didn't see in the article itself where they mentioned the styling.
